Hoover Dam is one of the areas biggest attractions and offers daily tours. The Hoover Dam was built for power generations, flood control, water storage, navigation, and irrigation. In 1921 when Herbert Hoover became secretary of commerce, he proposed a dam be built for the Colorado River because many farmers were experiencing catastrophic floods. The construction of the dam brought in many jobs during the Great Depression. Hoover Dam was the first man-made structure greater than the mass of the Giza pyramid.
